Admissions
How to apply
(PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS)
GENERAL ADMISSIONS
Applications are welcomed at any time, however it is advised that all applications are in by October half term of the year before entry. Please note that the number of places available will be divided between day/boarding and boys/girls. If the acceptance is not received by the closing date, the application is then placed on a waiting list and the place offered to another candidate. Where offers have been made for all available places, subsequent applicants will be offered a place on a waiting list and notified as and when a place becomes available.
The main points of entry are:
Year 7 - 45 places
Year 9 - Up to 90 students (45 places)
Year 12 - Number of spaces dependent on Year 11 stay on rate
Plus we have a single form entry at Year 6 for parents keen to get their children into the Senior School system.
All students attend an interview with the Headmaster before entry to ascertain their reasons for choosing the school, their academic strengths and weaknesses and other interests.
After we receive a completed application form, the Headmaster will request a reference from the student’s present school to include information on academic performances (including test results), behaviour and contributions to extra curricular activities. Academic information is used by Heads of Year for the purpose of setting.
Offers will be made by Xmas so that both parties can prepare for September. All offers will be subject to a deadline. The final deadline for receipt of acceptances is 28th February 2009.
For students with learning difficulties, the selection process also involves an interview and testing with our Special Educational Needs Department.
Reasons are always given when students are not offered a place. Admissions are made without reference to gender, disability, race, ethnicity or social-economic background.
PLEASE DOWNLOAD AN APPLICATION FORM FROM THE ON-LINE PROSPECTUS
If you require any further information or would like to visit the school, please contact the Headmaster’s PA on 01508-522474 to arrange a mutually convenient appointment.

ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIPS
At Langley we recognise that all students are talented. Some excel in the area of academic work and for others, their ability lies in Art, Drama, Music, Sport or Technology. We also offer an all-rounder scholarship for students joining the school in yrs 7, 9 or 12 who excel in more than one area. That is why opportunities exist within the curriculum and in a wider variety of extra curricular activities to develop these talents further.
If you believe that your son or daughter could contribute significantly to this depth of talent, we invite you to apply for one of the scholarships available. In order to apply for a Scholarship, you must also have registered a place at the school and must meet the school’s academic entrance requirements.
Academic Scholarships
Academic Scholarships are available at entry into Year 7 and Year 9. There are two awards in each category; one of 50% and one of 25% of the Day Fees. Examinations will be held on Wednesday 18th February 2009.
Non-Academic Scholarships
For students who excel in other areas, we offer scholarships in Art, Drama, Music, Sport and Technology. Assessment is by evidence of achievement, audition/trial/practical exercise and interview in the week beginning Monday 16th February 2009. There are two awards in each category; one of 50% and one of 25% of the Day Fees.
If you wish to apply for one of the above scholarships, please complete the attached application form and return to the Headmaster’s PA by the closing date of Monday 19th January 2009.
Sixth Form Scholarships
A number of Sixth form Scholarships are awarded to students from Langley School and from elsewhere, based on their achievement at GCSE. A student who passes all his/her subjects with Grade A* would clearly be in line for a major award (up to 50% of day fees) but there are opportunities to recognise the achievement of others if top grades match chosen ‘A’ level subjects. This is particularly true where the student is gifted in Art, Drama, Music, Sport or Technology.
Tenure of Awards
A Scholarship Award will normally be held until the completion of Year 11. At that stage, a student may apply for a Sixth Form Scholarship. Continuity of the award is subject to sustained satisfactory performance and the school reserves the right to reduce or terminate the award on giving a term’s notice.
