Langley Preparatory School & Thorpe House School Merger Update
Our ref: DF/CM
9th November 2009
Dear Parents
Following the official signing of the merger, which some of you may have seen in the local press, I am writing as promised to keep you informed of activities at both Thorpe House and Langley Prep School.
On 7th October, we held a joint Open Day, which proved to be very successful, both in terms of future recruitment and enabling parents from both schools to visit each other in the afternoon and get a real feel for both schools.
This has been backed up by both PTA’s beginning to plan not only for the future, but also some joint activities throughout the remainder of the year, including a joint Quiz and Chips evening next term.
One major area of uncertainty is going to be discussed by both PTA’s, that being the new uniform. We are working very hard with our suppliers to provide samples that will be brought to a joint meeting of PTA’s, staff and students in the very near future. The aim here is to have settled on the uniform for 2010 by the end of this term.
As a result of the signing, I am now in a position to begin the process of confirming staffing positions with both Thorpe House and Langley Prep School staff and again, this is envisaged to take at least a term to finalise. It must be noted that the aim is to be a two form entry Prep School and if numbers remain as positive as they are now, we are going to certainly be very near that aim, which is fantastic.
Thorpe House and Langley Prep School are holding a joint venture drama production, the Burston Drum, to be performed at the Playhouse in February. It is very much hoped that further activities will be planned for the coming two terms.
The first term has been very encouraging, and Mrs Sutcliffe, Mr Marfleet and myself are continuing to plan for full integration of the two schools, and would be happy to discuss any concerns that you have with the merger.
Finally, please find below a copy of the new school logo, which has been agreed by Governors.
(This can be found in the section 'Articles' on the Prep School Website)
The future is looking very encouraging for the new Prep School and I very much hope that you will continue to support the staff and pupils of both schools, as they work tirelessly for your students.
We are intending to keep the websites updated on a regular basis, so please do ensure you keep logging on each month.
Yours sincerely
Mr D Findlay
