Langley Sixth Form Politics students attended the annual student Politics Conference at Westminster Central Hall in London recently. This event allows 2,000 students to listen and ask questions of senior politicians from various political parties. Among the participants this year were the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, the leader of the Liberal Democrats, Vince Cable, Ukip MEP Nigel Farage, and Labour’s Shadow Defence Secretary, Emily Thornberry.
Not surprisingly, the Brexit debate was mentioned more than once and tense exchanges between students and politicians were in evidence throughout the event. One of our Students, Imogen Ramsdale asked Nicky Morgan, Conservative MP about her opinion on lowering the voting age to 16. Ms Morgan surprised most of the attendees by saying that she agreed with the idea! This capped an enlightening and exciting day for the school’s student contingent who thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.
