Our Year 1s enjoyed a visit to Gressenhall Workhouse and Farm as part of their topic ‘Homes and Buildings’. The children were transported back to Victorian times to experience home, school and work over one hundred years ago. They learnt that washing clothes was a very different experience to today. The children all enjoyed drawing up the water from the well and pounding the dirt out of the clothes with the dolly, although the soap was rather smelly! The children were excellent seekers as they looked for the ‘toilet’ in a home from long ago and were happy to taste the drop scones baked in the range. We ventured into the old school room too. We all agreed that we much prefer our modern classrooms with their tables and bright colours! What a fabulous day of bringing the past to life.
