The reception classes have had lots of fun celebrating Chinese New Year.
They have been learning about China both nowadays and in the past. They were fascinated looking at photographs of the Great Wall and the Terracotta Army and loved the idea of a bullet train that went so very fast.
They sorted numbers to 10 and copied the Chinese numbers and had competitions with their friends to see how many cubes they could put in a bowl using chop sticks.
They loved the story of how the Emperor decided which animal should be a zodiac symbol and learnt that this year is the year of the rat. All the children made a Chinese lantern that resembled a rat and also wrote the symbol for rat. The afternoon finished with a Chinese banquet. The children ate egg noodles and prawn crackers using chop sticks before taking part in a dragon dance.
