U9As v Beeston Hall
Score: Langley Prep – 293; Beeston Hall – 270
Captain Sophie won the toss and elected to field. Having already undergone a practice in the morning, the girls had their eye in for what was to be a very exciting match! The bowling all round was much improved from the morning session, with very few wides delivered and five wickets taken. This included
two from Angelica, one from Danielle, (caught and bowled!), one from Summer and one from Sofia. Sophie, Ella, Bella and Venna demonstrated just how much their bowling and fielding has improved, with a superb catch from Bella preventing the Beeston girls from hitting many boundaries.
Chasing a total of 270, the girls didn’t need to take any risks but just keep the score ticking along! However, four wickets were lost in the first four overs leaving the girls on 200 runs. Summer and Sophie added 36 to the score with some tenacious batting and running, leaving them trailing by just 7 runs at
the halfway stage. Ella and Sofia batted sensibly and extended the team score to 255, scoring a couple of boundaries and with the Bella/ Venna partnership in for the last four overs, the girls took the team to victory with 293 runs, including the loss of two wickets in the last two overs. Bella batted superbly,
scoring three sixes and three fours ably supported by Venna who also hit two boundaries. What a fantastic team effort today and a fitting end to the term.
Player of the match – Bella.

U9s v Beeston Hall
The girls started by fielding first, Olivia and Isabelle started us of with a great couple of overs of bowling. Emilia P got one wicket whilst bowling as did Grace S as well as stumping one of the Beeston girls. All the girls showed how much their bowling had improved and although we gave away some runs through wides and no balls the girls limited Beeston to only scoring 4 runs through actually running. Beeston ended their batting innings on 293.
During half time We talked about gained extra runs by running even if they hadn’t hit the ball. This proved to be an effective tactic for the girls with the first pair of batters olivia and Isabelle went on to score 45 runs between them. Theresa also hit a four, the only one of the game. By the end of the innings the girls had racked up a massive 355.
What an excellent end to the season for the girls, they made a real improvement since the last game. Well done girls.

U13As v Town Close
Score: L 263 – 292
Our U13 girls just fell short against a strong Town Close side in our final game of the season, and last match for Langley Prep School for some. We fielded first and started brightly with Milly and Alex taking a wicket each, followed by a good spell from Emily and a superb 2 overs for Maddie, only conceding 8 runs for 2 wickets off her 2 overs. However our opposition’s last pair proved to be too strong and pushed their score on to 292. Our opening batters, Grace and Gracie got us off to a good start and we were ahead of the game at the mid point of our innings but we let things slip as the match progressed, loosing too many wickets to straight balls and fell short by 29 runs. We have a lot of potential at this age group and some may benefit from joining a local cricket club to support their training within school in preparation for next year’s season.
Well done girls and good luck to those of you moving on with your senior school sports… Mrs Hood looks forward to following your progress.

U13Bs v Town Close
Result – Langley Prep – 297; Town Close – 274
Town Close won the toss and elected to field. Alice and Izzy opened the batting and took the score to 235 after four overs. They communicated well and took regular singles to give their team a very good start to the innings. Abbie and Sophie were next in and found the Town Close bowling a little tricky, however they extended the lead to 243 for the loss of just one wicket. Evie and Izzy stormed ahead hitting four boundaries between them and taking the score to a magnificent 281. Next in was Edith and Millie J, and although they batted well, hitting three fours, they lost four wickets which left them at 284 after 16 overs. The last partnership was Sara and Becky who took several quick singles taking their final score to 297 for the loss of just one wicket.
Although the girls had set a good target, they needed to ensure that their bowling was on point, they backed up well, made sure of the catches and didn’t misfield and this they duly did!! Alice’s bowling was fantastic. She conceded only three runs in her first over and with Izzy putting in a solid performance and both Sophie and Abby taking wickets early on, Town Close were kept to 208 after four overs. The bowling consistency continued, with a second wicket taken from Sophie and one from Millie J, Millie P, Evie and two fabulous catches from Sara and Millie P. This was a real all-round team performance, showing great tenacity in the field and a wonderful way to end a most enjoyable cricket term.
It has been so encouraging to see just how much all these girls have improved this year and several have joined local clubs where they are thriving.
Player of the Match was awarded to Captain Sara who only conceded 3 runs in her two overs.
