“The EYFS has continued to provide the high standards reported in the previous inspection.” ISI
The School were delighted to receive the highest accolade of ‘Excellent’ in the 2016 Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) Educational Quality inspection which focused on the following two key outcomes:

The quality of the pupils’ academic and other achievements, and
The quality of the pupils’ personal development.

A total of six outstanding inspections have taken place since 2010 and this latest inspection compliments the one undertaken in June 2014 which rated our Early Years provision ‘outstanding’ in ALL areas:

  • How well the early years provision meets the needs of the range of children who attend.
  • The contribution of the early years provision to children’s well being.
  • The leadership and management of the early years provision.
  • The overall quality of the early years provision.

“Their skills are significantly enhanced through the rich broad curriculum which makes extensive used of the outdoor environment.” ISI

Langley Preparatory School at Taverham Hall’s Early Years setting is a happy full-time pre-school for children aged 2 to 4 and it is here where the introduction to the School’s Growth Mindset approach starts. It’s action packed and full of challenging, stimulating and fun indoor and outdoor Forest School activities, to satisfy the most inquisitive of minds.

As part of the School, the bespoke Pre-Prep Early Years programme is structured around the ability, personality and interests of each child. At our Taverham Pre-Prep setting, everyone gets lots of individual attention in our child-centred welcoming environment.

We believe that children learn more effectively if they are given strategies to do so. If they understand how they can make decisions and investigate for themselves, they will become more interested, more capable and keen to learn. We build upon experience and start from familiar points with each child. We connect the learning to their individual world and involve parents and families closely with their education.

Every activity is designed to build confidence, stretch imaginations and guide children gently into the wonderful world of learning.

By the time our Pre-Prep Early Years children enter our Pre-Prep Reception classes they are confident learners who are ready to take on new challenges with energy and enthusiasm.

In the Early Years Acorn and Oak classes each child is allocated a Key Person. Children thrive from a base of loving and secure relationships. A Key Person is a named member of staff with responsibilities for a small group of children who helps those children in the group feel safe and cared for. The role is an important one and an approach set out in the EYFS which is working successfully in Early Years settings and in Reception classes.

This role involves the Key Person in responding sensitively to children’s feelings and behaviours and meeting emotional needs by giving reassurance, such as when they are new to a setting or class, and supporting the child’s wellbeing. The Key Person supports physical needs too, helping with issues like nappy changing, toileting and dressing. That person is a familiar figure who is accessible and available as a point of contact for parents and one who builds relationships with the child and parents or carers.

Records of development and care are created and shared by the Key Person, parents and the child.

In addition, we are able to support children’s wellbeing further through our dedicated teaching team of mental health first aiders.

Langley Preparatory School at Taverham Hall’s purpose-built Acorn and Oak classrooms provide a child-friendly environment, specific to Early Learning needs. Situated within the extensive grounds of Taverham Hall, children enjoy year-round access to the sports hall and Pre-Prep Hall. The Acorn and Oak classes  have their own secure outside area where they can explore, listen to stories on the giant’s chair, tend to their vegetable garden, play in the Wendy house or try to conquer their climbing wall!

Under careful supervision, all Early Years children have the opportunity to take part in our Forest School programme. Outdoor activities are planned to support the children’s self esteem and confidence and encourage team building skills through a variety of interesting activities all year round, such as whittling, bug hunting, walks around the grounds, den building and much, much more!

The proximity of the Acorn and Oak facilities to the Pre-Prep Reception classes makes the transition to the next stage easy. With the Early Years children joining older pupils in the main Prep School Hall for a cooked lunch everyday, all children benefit from interacting with other age groups. Meals are prepared and cooked in school by our own catering team, so every meal is guaranteed to be nutritionally balanced and delicious.

Our Pre-Prep Early Years setting is open from 08:15 – 15:30 but also offers the option of an extended day for your child until 18:00 hours as well as an Early Bird Club option which starts at 08:00. This extended day provides the perfect opportunity to try something new and offers working parents the convenience of a later pick up time. A light snack and a drink are provided if your child is staying till the end of the day.

Our popular and FREE ‘Taster Days’ are a great way to see if  our Pre-Prep Early Years provision is right for you. Open Days are also held throughout the year.
