Pizza and Polemic Debating Society Night

Last night we hosted 10 schools as a part of our Pizza and Polemic Debating Society. With 100 pupils and a lot of Dominos Pizza, Beginners and Veterans enjoyed an evening of Festive-themed Debate; teams are mixed between the schools in attendance, so new friends are made and debate and discussion are encouraged between schools.

Our debaters tackled the question:

‘This House believes that Santa Claus does not provide appropriate working conditions or payment.’

With references to Elf (the Movie); the UNCHR; Maritime Law, Marx, Machiavelli and the comparison of Santa to some of the histories less savory characters, two-thirds deemed Santa to be in violation of a host of workplace statutes, mistreating both the Elves and the Reindeers – a good time and good laugh were had by all.

Thank you to all the Langley Debating Society and to the following schools for attending:

Royal Hospital School; Thomas Paine School; Norwich High School for Girls; East Norfolk College; Norwich School; Wymondham High School and City of Norwich School – we hope to see you all again soon.
