What a thrilling end to a pretty spectacular year for our U11 girls at the ISA football finals at St George’s Park.

An excited group of girls (and staff!) set off on Monday night for a hotel stay prior to the big day. A good-ish nights sleep, followed by a very good breakfast, hair put into team plaits and a short minibus ride to an incredible venue, home to the England football training facility, set us up for an exciting day of football.

The girls meant business from the start and dominated their first 2 league games, winning 3 – 0 and 5 – 1 against Lady Barn House and Gatehouse schools. We then faced 2 very strong schools and trailed 0 – 1 at half time in both matches, but belief, hard work, and some spectacular goals from Issy and Beau, meant we won 2 – 1 against Blackheath and 3 – 1 against Warwick Prep, meaning we were group winners and into the semi-finals.

This was another tough challenge and trailing 0-1 once again, our girls stepped up a gear and showed just what fantastic football we are capable of and defeated Danes Hill 4 – 1 to take us to the final. We certainly saved the best until last and competed with a very physical St Aubyns School, but nothing could stop us in the end, winning the final 3 – 1 and being crowned NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!!

We are all so proud of this group of girls and all they have achieved…

Well done to: Zinhle ‘the cat’ in goal who has improved so much throughout and showed real bravery at times, Rachel and Grace were our ‘rocks’ in defence meeting every ball and never giving up, and Grace’s superb throw-ins contributed to plenty of goal mouth action. Evie and Millie, our tenacious wingers who worked tirelessly throughout the day, Alice our super sub who stepped up when required and played the ball well to her team mates, to Beau our goal scoring machine, scoring from all angles and particularly keeping cool under pressure, and finally to our midfield maestro Issy, who showed what an exceptional little footballer she is. We look forward to watching some of these girls play here again some day… maybe for England?!

From your very proud coaches, Mrs Hood and Miss Gregory.
