Our Under 11 Boys have reached the IAPS National Finals at Rugby School two years in a row following another good day of hockey hosted at Framlingham College. The boys travelled down in good spirits following their promising performances last week at the ISA National Finals which saw them pick up a silver medal.
The boys started the day in a pool of 6 with the goal of finishing in the top 2 to progress into the semi-finals. In the first game the boys started slowly against a strong Bedford Prep School, with Ben T scoring in a 1-1 draw. The boys played a lot better in game two with a 1-0 victory over Suffolk county champions Barnardiston Hall, thanks to a excellent finish from Sebastian L. Game three came thick and fast and it was the boys best performance of the day as they beat Town Close 2-0 thanks to goals from Reilly B and Ben T. Game 4 saw an entertaining 0-0 draw versus Culford School followed by disapointing but crucial 1-1 draw against Orwell Park in the final group game. Two draws to finish meant the unbeaten Under 11s had to rely on a draw in the final group game between Town Close and Barnardiston to go through, and as the game finished 0-0 the boys knew they had a semi-final to win to go to nationals.
During lunch the boys found out that they would face off against Beeston Hall in a 12 minute semi final to go to Nationals, the boys prepared well and our thanks go to Gresham’s for a practice match during the lunch break. The boys played an excellent game against Beeston and with one minute to go Sebastian L scored the winning reserve stick goal to send the boys to Nationals once again. The day finished with a medal deciding match with a re-run of the days first game, as the boys took on Bedford. Bedford took the lead with a well worked goal before Langley scored the goal of the day with several passes that opened up the Bedford defence which left Marcus W with a tap in at the far post. The boys continued to work hard as the rain fell but conceded 3 minutes into golden goal and lost the game 2-1. However the boys went to Framlingham with one objective and they achieved it! National finals here we come!
