LPSTH: 92 all out (18.5 overs)   Town Close: 83-7 (20 overs)    LPSTH won by 9 runs!

In their U13s County Cup Final against Town Close, LPSTH won the toss and elected to bat first. We started our innings well with Nathan and Elliott continuing their fine form that they have shown all season, and at 44 without loss after 6 overs, things were looking promising. However, an incredible spell of leg spin bowling from S Singh of Town Close, who took 6 wickets for 6 runs looked like he had changed the course of the match. Wickets fell regularly and our innings stalled dramatically to find ourselves 67 for 8. However, Luca came to the rescue with a match-winning 22, which although may not sound a huge score, was pivotal in the context of the game. He played positively and struck the ball hard, including an impressive six over mid-wicket. Luca’s efforts at the back end of our the innings ensured we were able to accumulate a competitive, yet modest total of 92.

We knew that defending such a low total would be difficult, especially with the strength of the Town Close batting line up. However, it so happened that the boys saved their best and most united bowling and fielding performance of the season, for arguably their most important game.. Elliott and Danny opened the bowling well, keeping things tight, and Elliott managed to pick up two early and important wickets through some aggressive fast bowling. Nathan and Campbell then followed, continuing to bowl with great skill and control, ensuring runs were hard to come by for the Town Close batsmen. Campbell and Nathan picked up three further wickets, to heap the pressure on Town Close and after 10 overs, the score was 27-5, with Town Close needing a significant partnership. Despite continued accurate and tight bowling, the middle order batsmen of Town Close were able to run the ball around to keep the game interesting, and with 3 overs to go, they needed just 30 runs. However, Nathan, Elliott and Campbell, who all bowled an over each at the death, held their nerve to clinch an exciting and deserved 9 run victory to be crowned County Cup champions!

Mr Findlay was immensely proud to watch their fielding performance. Our team’s comradely, skill and tactical understanding was exceptional. Campbell should be commended for his captaincy, as well as Alfie S who kept exceptionally well in challenging conditions. Well done boys, a great result and fantastic performance!
