Eight of our pupils from Year 6, 7 and 8 had a fantastic day at Langley Senior School on Monday 27th January, playing in an orchestra with one of the Corps of Army Bands, The Band of the Parachute Regiment.

As soon as Rahin walked into the rehearsal space, he said “there is an amazing musical atmosphere in here” and Freddie said “it was a very good experience.” Pupils had rehearsals throughout the day, following direction from the conductor, who made the rehearsal process much fun as well as a good challenge.

After a break, pupils split off into sectionals, where further rehearsals in smaller groups took place. Here, the scores were analysed and much theory knowledge was put to the test! Section leaders supported in directing pupils, knowing when to come in and keeping a strict pulse.

Pupils were able to ask questions and find out more about the Corps of Army Band. They felt well-supported throughout the day. Seven pieces of music were rehearsed and then performed to an audience at the end of the event, including ‘Gonna Fly Now (Theme From Rocky)’ arranged by Naohiro Iwai, ‘Symphonic Highlights From Frozen’ arranged by Stephen Bulla, and ‘Clarinet On The Town’ by Ralph Hermann.
