Physio at Langley
Physiotherapy is provided both for the benefit of our athletes and also for the general health and well being of the pupils and staff at Langley School.
Our full time Physiotherapist, Adrian Sweeney, has over 10 years of professional experience from working within the NHS and private practice in the UK, to public health in New Zealand and elite sports teams with Leicester Tigers DPP and England Touch Rugby.

Having an onsite Physiotherapy Department facilitates the students’ recovery from injuries as quickly as possible and helps to prevent minor injuries from recurring and becoming more problematic.
As our physiotherapist has completed postgraduate studies in strength and conditioning many treatments are primarily exercise based. Manual treatments are also available, but the aim is to engage the students in their own health in order to enable them to cope better as their maturation progresses from adolescence into adulthood. By working closely with the Strength and Conditioning Department we also aim to prepare our students to take preventative measures that reduce the incidence of injury in the first place. This includes contributing to the S&C component of the Physical Education curriculum.
Physiotherapy sessions can take place before and after school, or at an appropriate time during the school day so as to cause as little disruption as possible. Each session takes into account the individual student’s needs, based on their lifestyle and personality. Information gathered in physiotherapy sessions is then used to formulate S&C programmes and is discussed with the coaching staff to ensure the conditions are optimal for recovery.
Having the delivery of physiotherapy permanently based on site access is also very convenient for both the students and their parents. Immediate and effective intervention will not only ensure performance levels can be maintained, but it significantly reduces the disruption to academic study.
The Physiotherapist is also able to communicate with any outside agencies in order to make the service as effective as possible, including medical practitioners, consultants and outside coaches of sports teams.
