Director of Sport Tim Malone works alongside Leicester Tiger Academy Coaches Brett Deacon, Anthony Allen, Jamie Taylor and Academy Manager Dave Wilks to deliver high quality Rugby Union and Rugby 7s to our students.
Rugby is the main winter sport for boys at Langley School and it is compulsory for all boys in the Autumn Term. All of our students are treated as individuals, and we work closely with them to determine their skills and abilities, both on and off the pitch.
We compete regularly in the National Cup and 7s competitions and host a prestigious Under 15 rugby festival that brings together teams from all over the country. We succeeded in winning 15 trophies at the end of the 2016 season, including a clean sweep of all of the county cup competitions.
Whilst our students may enjoy the thrill of winning, we ensure that they understand the fundamentals of the game, including good sportsmanship. We prefer to coach them across all aspects of the sport, helping them to grow not only as individuals, but also develop as a team.
With a strong focus on analysis and strength and conditioning, the philosophy is to provide development across all areas of performance. The Leicester Tiger Academy coaches visit Langley students regularly as part of the Good2Great partnership and coach rugby across the year groups from the Prep School upwards.
We’re delighted to have eight students currently on Under 18 contracts with Leicester Tigers. Hooker, Harry Mahoney last year signed a full first team contract with Tigers and Gift Sankoh has just completed a 14-month contract with the England 7s squad.
